I tweeted... twittered... twitted... whatever the heck you call it; anyway, I basically posted on Twitter the other day my loathing of the stupid, "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commercials. That day (about 3 or 4 days ago, actually) I saw TWO of those commercials that I had never seen before and I couldn't help but shake my head and think to myself one thing:

Just how the hell would Apple market their OS if it weren't for Windows!?

Yeah, now THERE'S a novel concept! I mean, just how big of a niche is Apple appealing to with the whole, "ohhh, every PC has bad viruses and they're going to eat all your datas?" It can't possibly be THAT many! Oops... maybe I've just stumbled onto something there. ;)

It seems that for all of their, "Mac users are, "up here" and everyone else is just, "down there"," they don't really give a good reason to use their product. Not once does one (or do I, at least) get the impression from those commercials to get a Mac other than for the purpose of, "not getting millions of viruses." You know, if I'm going to buy something, I don't want FUD marketing techniques to sell it to me. Granted, if someone wanted to, they could go pull up Apple's website to see what a Mac is really supposed to be about but doesn't that defeat the purpose? How is someone going to look it up if they don't have a computer to begin with? Oh, that's right... chances are, everyone already has a computer with Windows on it. Once again, just where would Steve Jobs' OS be without good ol' Bill G's already dominating the market?

Okay, so let's say I don't have a computer at home, so all I have to go by are Apple's commercials. Okay, I want to go check out a Mac. Is there an Apple store close by? Let's have a look in the phone book to call and see. Oh, well looky there! There's only ONE in my state and it's 3 frickin' hours away! That's alright, let me see if any other retailers near by sell Macs. (Once again, back to the phone book) Okay, there are. Let's go to the store and check them out!

*Microsoft's commercials kick in here* and I do indeed find something more powerful and just as good-looking and usable in a PC... and for considerably less, to boot! It's really simple in my head: You walk into a store where you can compare the two and a PC sells itself! If it works great in the store, it's going to work great at home unless you're like Rafael Rivera and visit naughty sites all the time (he's exemplary of what, "InPrivate" mode was built into IE8 for, har har!).

After a couple of coding hours, I managed to deliver a decent (well, maybe not!) and simple game, which I am going to present here to you. The game is, in its nature, rather simple.

Microsoft posted on how to use new features in Windows Embedded Standard 2011 operating system. The toolkit for Windows 7-based Windows Embedded Standard 2011 (formerly code-named “Quebec”) comes with two components: Image Builder Wizard (IBW) and Image Configuration Editor (ICE).

-IBW is a new development experience, designed to let you quickly and easily create an embedded OS for your device. IBW is essentially a wizard that runs on your target device. If you’ve downloaded or gotten a physical copy of Windows Embedded Standard 2011, you’ll find two disks (or ISOs) that contain IBW (one for x86 and one for amd64).
-ICE is based on Windows System Image Manager (Windows SIM) tool used to create answer files for use with Windows Setup. ICE’s used for the creation of answer files, which “answer” the dialogs presented in IBW to streamline the image creation process. All the options for customizing an image in IBW’re also available in ICE, as well as the ability to customize SMI settings among other more advanced features.

Yammer Wins TechCrunch 50 with Twitter-like Enterprise Service

Winning $50,000 at TechCrunch 50 last night, Yammer did what Twitter hasn’t been able to: create a simple solution for enterprise with a pre-defined business model.

Founded by David Sacks, former COO of PayPal and currently CEO of Geni.com, the management team is filled from the ranks of PayPal, eBay, eGroups and Tribe. Sacks wanted an enterprise version of Twitter to keep his company connected, but it didn’t exist. So they built Yammer and launched it at TechCrunch 50 on September 8, 2008. As of the morning of the 10th, over 2,000 companies and 10,000 users were registered with Yammer.

Why would a company need this type of service? Well, aside from increasing communications between employees, Yammer claims it can reduce email by doing away with “email inboxes overflowing with unwanted messages.”

Scientists design “gravity tractor” to save earth from asteroids

LONDON - British space scientists have designed a special spacecraft that can save the earth from a catastrophic asteroid collision.

The 10 tonne spacecraft named “gravity tractor” would be deployed to intercept an asteroid en route to the earth and has the ability to fly 160 ft alongside it.

Once near an asteroid the craft will use gravitational force to pull the rock towards itself.

Gradually the gravity tractor will be able to change the asteroids path and thus make sure it misses the earth.

According to rough estimates of the American space agency NASA, there are more than 100,000 asteroids orbiting near the Earth and have the capacity to destroy cities.

The engineers of space company EADS Astrium, which designs crafts for NASA and the European Space Agency, have made the gravity tractor.

The team believes the craft could successfully divert the course of asteroids up to 430 yards across, which can release 100,000 times more than the Hiroshima bomb.

The Telegraph quoted Dr Ralph Cordey, science and exploration business development manager at Astrium as saying: “Anything bigger than 30m (32 yards) across is a real threat to the Earth.

“Unfortunately it is a matter of when rather than if one of them hits us.

“The gravity tractor exploits the principals of very basic physics - every object with a mass has its own gravity that affects objects around it. It can move fairly large objects 300 metres (984ft) to 400 metres (1,312ft) across.

“These asteroids are hurtling around our solar system at 10km per second, so when you scale that up, you just need a tiny nudge to send it off course.” (ANI)

Microsoft announced today that it’s sold more than 30 million Xbox 360 game consoles and that its active user base of Xbox Live online gaming service is now over 20 million.

The company made the disclosures in advance of next week’s E3 trade show in Los Angeles. The new fashion is to disclose a lot of news before E3, since announcements made at the conference tend to get drowned out. Yesterday, Electronic Arts released a list of 16 games (not counting cell phone games) that it will show off at E3.

At last count, Sony had sold more than 22.7 million PlayStation 3 consoles and Nintendo had sold more than 50 million Wiis.

But Microsoft says that its Xbox 360 hardware sales are up 28 percent from a year ago in the U.S., a higher percentage growth than either the Wii or the PS 3.

Since the Xbox 360 debuted in 2006, U.S. consumers have spent $14.5 billion on Xbox 360 hardware, games and accessories. Via Xbox Live’s market, consumers have downloaded more than a billion pieces of game and entertainment content (such as movies or TV shows).

To date, third-party game publishers have sold more than $5.9 billion worth of games for the Xbox 360 in the U.S. Full told, Microsoft and its game partners have sold an average of 8.3 games per console. That’s a lot more than sold on the original Xbox launched in 2001.

Since the launch of the revised Xbox Live service in November, TV and movie downloads have more than doubled, new members have increased more than 136 percent, and purchases of games on the Xbox Live Arcade have increased 70 percent. Xbox Live is available in 26 countries.

Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, estimated that 60 percent of the Xbox Live subscribers pay the $50 a year for the Gold membership, which lets people play against each other online. Hence, 12 million paying subscribers generates $600 million in revenue a year for Microsoft. Sales of downloadable games and movies probably generate another $100 million a year.

Meanwhile, costs are likely to be $300 million or so. That profit margin has helped Microsoft report regular profits in the past year or so in the game business, Pachter said. Any losses in the larger Entertainment and Devices Group, of which games is only a part, are due in part to the big investments in projects such as Microsoft Surface and Zune.

I love to speak my mind, at the beginning I didn't agree with the idea of blogging because I am not a writer but I found later it is such a good way to vent... So let me say: welcome to my blog..

North Korea’s tyrant-god Kim Jong-il is apparently a big fan of South Korean actress Lee Young-Ae (known to US cinephiles mostly from two Park Chan-wook movies: SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE and JOINT SECURITY AREA). So big that South Korean officials planned to use her to butter him up.

“Chairman Kim likes to watch South Korean TV programmes. Among South Korean entertainers, he favours Lee Young-Ae the most,” an unidentified South Korean official was quoted as saying by the Joong Ang daily. “DVDs of South Korean movies and dramas, including those featuring Lee Young-Ae, will be included as summit gifts.”

But if I were Miss Lee, I would boost my security retinue or get the hell out of South Korea real quick, in case one day Kim gets jealous at South Korean cinema’s international prestige and decides North Korea’s needs a boost, like he’s given it in the past.

His obsession with developing North Korea’s film industry was so great that in 1978 he reportedly ordered North Korean agents to abduct a famous South Korean movie director, Shin Sang-Ok, and his ex-wife, actress Che Eun Hui.
The couple stayed in the communist state for eight years while making propaganda films. They escaped in 1986 and wrote a memoir about their saga.

These are actually not “real Kim Yu-Na bobblehead dolls” but just an unknown artist’s portraits, circulating on the web, depicting Yu-Na on her memorable performances through bobblehead-style drawings. I personally like how the artist rendered these cutesy Yu-Na bobblehead images by using the same expression-less face the Korean “Queen of Ice” is famous for. It made these bobbleheads really cute and classy.
I hope Samsung gets a knack at these and actually make a “real” Kim Yu-Na bobbleheads dolls. So the next time I purchase a Samsung Hauzen air-con or a Kim Yu-Na Haptic phone, I expect to receive from them my Kim Yu-Na bobblehead doll freebies.

One of their regional training centers is based right here in the South at Atlanta’s King Plow Center. A number of local independent coffee houses, including Octane, Tilt, and ParkGrounds use their beans, and recently Saveur Magazine featured them in their list of top brews.

If there’s anything that I like better than making a cup of coffee, it’s having someone else make my coffee and relaxing with it in a coffee shop. Here, some of my favorite coffees in the metro, great for drink-in or take away.

McCafé
I can’t explain why McCafé captivates me. For someone who hardly eats fast food, friends raise eyebrows when I tell them that it’s my favorite coffee in the world. “That good, huh?” they ask, confusion clear on their faces. Granted, the ambience is not as cozy-hip as say, Starbucks, but the ambience that is there is welcoming and comfortable. When traveling, I squeal in delight when I chance upon a McCafé. So far, I’ve enjoyed it in Hong Kong; Geneva, Switzerland; and Paris, France.

Siberian Husky

The Siberian huskies were first brought into Alaska in 1909.
For centuries, they were used by the Chukchi people of the region to pull sleds and for a long time, they were also used to watch and keep reindeers together.

Siberian huskies are adapted to work in the rough conditions of Siberia; they are strong, tough, able to adapt to all conditions, and also love to work for hours.
The Siberian husky is known for its high endurance and its light-weight.

Fur traders brought them to North America for races because of their great speed.
One incident that helped popularize the breed was in 1925 when there was an epidemic of diphtheria in Nome, a city of Alaska where a lot of huskies brought medicine to the city.
They were also used in the Admiral Byrd’s Antarctic Expeditions.
The Siberian husky is now used as a companion dog but it’s not their only utility.

There was a literal uprising when Muse fans got a listen to the undeniably Queen-y "United States Of Eurasia," which to be fair, successfully distracted people from the song's name. The collection's opener and first single (and protest song) "Uprising" is a darker synth-lined track with stadium-sized "hey hey" group chants. Fans will be fans again. In Matthew Bellamy's words, it resembles "a heavy-rock take on Goldfrapp." Also in Bellamy's words, "they will not control us." OK! Try and resist The Resistance's album art while you take a listen.

"Doomsday Clock" moves two minutes closer to midnight

Growing concern about the security of nuclear weapons materials stockpiled around the world and a lack of U.S. support for several global disarmament pacts today prompted the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists to move the minute hand of the “Doomsday Clock” forward two minutes - to seven minutes to midnight - the same position as when the clock made its debut in 1947.

The move marks the third time the hand has been advanced since the end of the Cold War in 1991. The hand was last moved in June 1998, from 14 minutes to nine minutes to midnight. The clock has been reset 16 times previously in its 55-year history.

“Despite a campaign promise to re-think nuclear policy, the Bush administration has taken no significant steps to alter nuclear targeting policies or reduce the alert status of U.S. nuclear forces,” said George A. Lopez, Chairman of the Bulletin's Board of Directors, who made the announcement. “Meanwhile, domestic weapons laboratories continue working to refine existing warheads and design new weapons, with an emphasis on the ability to destroy deeply buried targets.”

Lopez stressed that the movement of the clock's minute hand is based on a comprehensive checklist of nuclear developments worldwide, both positive and negative, and is only partially related to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

“We are deeply concerned that the international community appears to have ignored the wake-up call of September 11,” added Lopez. “Terrorist efforts to acquire and use nuclear and biological weapons present a grave danger. But the U.S. preference for the use of preemptive force rather than diplomacy could be equally dangerous.”

The Bulletin also cited the continuing U.S. preference for unilateral rather than cooperative action, and its efforts to impede international agreements designed to limit the proliferation of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. In particular, the Bulletin criticized U.S. plans to walk away from the Antiballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty in June, and its refusal to participate in talks regarding implementation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

Doomsday Clock From Watchmen Wiki

The Nuclear Doomsday Clock is a symbolic representation of how close the world is to catastrophic destruction. It is based on the real-world Doomsday Clock, which performs a similar function. The closer the clock stands to midnight, the nearer the world is to Armageddon.

In Chapter I of Watchmen, a newspaper on Adrian Veidt's desk has the headline "Nuclear Doomsday Clock Stands At Five To Midnight".

The cover page of each chapter of Watchmen has an image of a clockface. The clock on the cover of Chapter I is set at twelve minutes to midnight, and on the cover of each subsequent chapter the clock is moved forward by one minute. The clock on the cover of the final chapter, Chapter XII, is set to midnight. The final page in each chapter also bears a clockface showing the same time as the one on the cover.

The blood-stained badge of the Comedian, which appears on the cover of Chapter I, symbolically represents a clock with its minute hand pointing at twelve minutes to the hour.

Veidt's master plan takes place at midnight, New York local time. On page 27 of Chapter XI, a clock set to New York time is pictured at one minute to midnight. A clock, covered in blood and set to midnight, appears on the cover and first page of Chapter XII
